Steps leading to donation

General Requirements:

  1. Age between 18 and 60 (People between the ages of 18 and 44 are encouraged to join, as younger people are much less likely to develop complications during or following the donations procedure, while patients who receive donations from younger people have a better chance for long-term survival)
  2. Physical health
  3. No history of any kind of cancer and HIV or Hepatitis virus infection
  4. Not having autoimmune problems, severe asthma and sever heart failure

Before you register:

  1. Update your health information and undergo a physical exam
  2. Sign a consent form
  3. Give blood samples

After you register:

  1. HLA Typing: human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing, which is used to match up patients with potential donors. They will then add your HLA type to a database of potential donors, which doctors can search through to find a match for their patients.
  2. Wait to be contacted as a potential match.
